Troubleshooting Your RFID Reader - Zebra RFD40

 
Summary:

This article describes common problems you may encounter using Zebra – RFD40 RFID device and helps you to resolve them.

The possible issues are:

  • RFD40 Device is not getting ON / OFF
  • RFD40 Device is not connected with TagMatiks Wedge application
  • RFD40 Device is connected to another iOS/Android device
  • RFID Tags are not getting read in TagMatiks Wedge application
A.Switching ON & OFF RFD40 Device

I. Switching ON the RFD40 Device:

1. Press the trigger button of the device once.

2. Then its LED lights up BLUE which means the device is ready to pair.

II. Switching OFF the RFD40 Device:

The RFD40 reader powers off automatically when no longer connected to any device and idle.

B. RFD40 Device is not connected with TagMatiks Wedge application

Immediately after when the RFD40 device is powered on, the “Bluetooth Pairing” LED light will automatically start flashing Blue – this indicates that the RFD40 device is now in discoverable mode and ready to pair with a nearby IOS device.

1. Open TagMatiks Wedge and Login into it.

2. Click on the “Manage Readers” option to see the list of the readers.As shown in Fig 0.3.

3. Select ‘Zebra RFID Reader” to connect Zebra RFD40 with the application.As shown in Fig 0.4.

4. Select the “RFD40+_22055520100765” to successfully make the connection between the TagMatiks Wedge application & Zebra RFD40 Reader as shown in Fig 0.5.

5. You can also configure the settings of the reader from the Reader Settings page ,as shown in the image below Fig 0.6

  • Antenna - Adjusts the range of the RFID handheld or sled.
  • Battery - displays the battery of the RFID handheld or sled.
  • Beeper Sound - Sound On and Off - When Reading or Scanning the Tags
  • Auto reconnect - Turn ON and OFF for enabling the Auto reconnect reader with Application.
  • Trigger Mapping - Select trigger option for scan RFID and Barcode.
C. RFD40 Device is connected to another IOS device.

If the RFD40 device is “ON” but couldn’t connect to the IOS device. Then there is a possibility that the RFD40 device is already paired & connected to another Android/iOS device. To check the same, please follow the steps below.

I. RFD40 device LED status check:

1. Check the status of the “Bluetooth Pairing” LED light.

2. If it is solid blue, it means the RFD40 device is already paired with another IOS device; as shown in below image: Fig 0.7.

3. If the “Bluetooth Pairing” LED light is flashing Blue – this shows that the RFD40 device is now in discoverable mode and ready to pair with a nearby IOS device.

II. On TagMatiks Wedge Application: RFD40 Reader check:

1. Click on Manage Reader option from the home page of Application.

2. Tap on “Zebra RFID Reader” to connect Zebra RFD40 with application. As shown in Fig 0.8.

3. Then a new window will open, named: “Readers List.”

4. If no reader comes/reflects in the reader list.

5. This means:

Either no RFD40 RFID reader is there nearby the IOS device OR RFD40 Reader is already paired with another IOS device.

Then TagMatiks Wedge application will show “No Available Readers.” Refer below image Fig 0.9.

D. RFID Tags are not Getting Read in TagMatiks Wedge Application

1. To read the RFID tags from Zebra RFD 40 reader; Click on the inventory button option from the home page of Application.

2. Click on + icon button to create a new inventory. As shown in Fig 1.0.

3. Click on the Scan soft button from the Inventory Scan page. As shown in Fig 1.1.

4. The RFD40 reader is in polling state and reading the tags. Same can be seen in the application window. Refer to the image below:1.2.

5.Once you press the “Stop” button (on the right bottom of the application); reader will stop reading the tags.

6.As a result, the read tags will populate on the application window, as shown in the image below. Fig : 1.3.
